To assist with the coronavirus (COVID-19), GenesisCare is providing Telehealth appointments for patients who may be at increased risk of exposure, symptomatic or anxious about travelling to an appointment.

Your local centre will advise the most appropriate consultation type based on your needs.

What is Telehealth?

Telehealth is the use of videoconferencing (live video on computer) for appointments with your doctor when they are at a different location to you. This technology allows you and your doctor to discuss and share health information and images without the need for you to travel to a clinic. You may have seen videoconferencing used on television when the host of a show is interviewing a guest overseas or you may have used videoconferencing before through platforms like Skype and Facetime.

Why have I been asked to use Telehealth?

Telehealth can be convenient when you require access to your specialist doctor. This means that you can meet with your doctor using videoconferencing (or telephone) as your doctor will be at a different location to you.

Frequently asked questions

At the telehealth appointment, you (and your support person if you choose to have one) will meet with your cardiologist via a video link. You will see your doctor on the computer screen and will be able to talk to them as you would in a face-to-face appointment.

Where a video link is not available, you may be able to consult with your doctor via telephone.

If you are attending a telehealth appointment at one of our centres, our team will assist you at your appointment. If you are attending a telehealth appointment remotely (e.g. from your home) we will provide you with instructions for the telehealth appointment.

If you are attending a telehealth appointment from one of our centres, our team will greet you on arrival and advise you on any cardiac testing requirements.  Our team will ensure you are set up for your telehealth appointment with your cardiologist.

If you are attending a telehealth appointment remotely (e.g. from your home), our team will send you instructions for this appointment.  If you experience any technical difficulties, our cardiologist will contact you via telephone.

Once your appointment is complete, you will continue to receive any necessary prescriptions or referrals.  This will be discussed with you.

Yes. All consultations and services provided by GenesisCare are private and confidential. The image and sound are transferred in an encrypted form so that your appointment is completely confidential.

  • Before the appointment, make a list of questions that you have for your cardiologist that relate to your care, and bring them with you to your appointment.
  • Try to arrive 10- minutes before your appointment where you are attending a GenesisCare clinic.
  • You will be able to speak naturally to your cardiologist. Please note, however, the microphone can only pick up one person at a time.

If you are attending your telehealth appointment remotely (e.g. from home) we encourage you to test your connections prior to the appointment and to be ready for your appointment on time.

Please note that where video conference is not available, your appointment may be conducted via telephone.

Of course! If you are not comfortable talking to your cardiologist by telehealth, please feel free to discuss this with us.  We can advise you of the availability of face-to-face appointments with your cardiologist or another cardiologist if your cardiologist is not available.
