Special clinical interest in sleep disorders: snoring, sleep apnoea, insomnia, parasomnias, restless leg syndrome, circadian rhythm disorders, and narcolepsy.
Dr Sumit Mehra completed his initial medical degree (MBBS, MD) in India from King George Medical University, before moving to Australia in 2012. He completed his respiratory training at Flinders medical Centre, Adelaide where he had experience in wide facets of lung disorders (Asthma, ILD, Pulmonary embolism etc.). He then undertook Clinical Fellowship in lung cancer and pleural diseases at the Flinders Medical Centre. He also specialised in sleep medicine, and pulmonary physiology at WASDRI, Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital, which is renowned nationally in the field. He has also done training in respiratory failure at St. George Hospital, Sydney and at Sleep centres of Western New York, USA. In addition, he has done interventional pulmonology and allergy asthma training in Bolnisnica Golnik, Slovenia and have completed Certificate of Recognition of Competency in Thoracic Ultrasound (TSANZ).
Dr Sumit is committed to provide comprehensive care in all aspects of respiratory and sleep medicine. He has a particular interest in the areas of airways disease, chronic cough, lung cancer, asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis, complex sleep disordered breathing, and non-respiratory sleep disorders. Dr Sumit offers a range of services, including diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy, EBUS, comprehensive inpatient and home-based sleep studies, implementation of positive airway pressure therapy and full range of lung function testing modalities.
Dr Sumit Mehra is an award-winning researcher with 40 publications till date in major indexed journals including SLEEP, PGMJ (BMJ), Nature and science of sleep, International journal of COPD etc and have won several research awards. He also serves as reviewer and editorial board member to major international respiratory journals and has been involved in development of key respiratory guidelines.
Sumit has an appointment at Joondalup Health Campus and Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital. Sumit currently consults at Joondalup, Hollywood, Mount and Murdoch.
