Electrophysiologist with a special clinical interest in arrhythmias / electrophysiology.
Dr Angas Hamer has spent over 40 years practising medicine, working at several major teaching hospitals as well as caring for patients in the private sector. In addition to General Cardiology, Angas has longstanding experience as an electrophysiologist managing cardiac arrythmia, Holter reporting and continues to supervise several large pacemaker clinics. He has a particular interest in the diagnosis and management of syncope, and performs over 500 tilt table tests per year.
Dr Hamer is the primary author of over 50 peer reviewed journal articles, numerous abstracts for society meetings and several book chapters. He is passionate about training the next generation of doctors, and is a valued mentor to cardiology trainees in arrhythmia management at Eastern Health.
A graduate of the University of Melbourne Medical School in 1973, Angas gained his public appointment at The Royal Melbourne Hospital before undertaking advanced studies and clinical work at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre, Los Angeles until 1982. Over the ensuing decades, Angas has had a number of public appointments across Austin Health and Eastern Health, as well as building a substantial private practice that has included Warringal, Epworth Eastern and Epworth Richmond Hospitals.
Outside work, Dr Hamer relaxes by playing his trumpet and French Horn, as well as restoring classic cars and taking to the skies as a licensed private pilot with over 40 years flying experience.
