Skin cancer

The Baker Skin Field Cancerisation Tool (BSFCT) is a scoring tool designed and developed by Associate Professor Chris Baker together with dermatologists and radiation oncologists from around Australia. This tool is used to score the level of sun damage and skin cancer risk in one or more areas of skin in patients diagnosed with actinic (sun) damage. This tool has not yet been tested in the clinic. This study will focus on the use of this tool to assess patients in the clinic and to see how this assessment compares with scoring of photographs and also how the score correlates with health-related quality of life scores as measured by questionnaire.

To be considered for the study you must meet the following criteria:

• Aged 18 years or older 
• Attending St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne dermatology clinics 
• Have evidence of sun damage

This study will involve your participation at one clinic visit. At this visit, you will be asked to complete questionnaires about your current quality of life, and the study team will ask your about your skin cancer history. Two doctors will examine areas of your skin and note their observations. Photographs of the same skin areas will be taken, to be scored later. Following the clinic visit, your participation in the study will be finished.
