Dr Maja Uherek is a highly experienced and compassionate Consultant Clinical Oncologist specialising in the treatment of prostate, bladder, and other urological cancers using the latest advances in radiotherapy.

She has particular expertise in advanced radiotherapy techniques, including stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) and MR-guided adaptive radiotherapy (MR-Linac), and treats patients with localised, locally advanced, recurrent, and oligometastatic urological cancers. Her practice is centred on delivering precise, personalised, evidence-based cancer care, combining the latest advances in radiotherapy with compassionate, patient-centred care.

After graduating from the Medical University of Gdańsk, Poland, Dr Uherek moved to the United Kingdom in 2008 to pursue specialist training in Clinical Oncology. During her postgraduate training, she successfully completed the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) examinations before obtaining the Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR) in Clinical Oncology.

She also completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Oncology at The Institute of Cancer Research, London, and continues to advance her expertise through specialist training, research and the implementation of innovative radiotherapy techniques.

Her specialist interests include SABR for primary prostate cancer and oligometastatic disease, MR-Linac, complex radiotherapy for prostate and bladder cancer, image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT), and the management of recurrent and oligoprogressive cancers.

Alongside her clinical practice, Dr Uherek is Clinical Lead (Head of Radiotherapy) at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust. She leads the development of radiotherapy services and oversees the introduction of innovative technologies that improve the precision, quality, and accessibility of cancer treatment.

She is actively involved in clinical research, medical education and service innovation, with a particular focus on expanding access to advanced radiotherapy techniques and continually improving the quality and safety of patient care.

Holistic Patient Care

Dr Uherek believes that exceptional cancer care extends beyond treatment alone. She takes a holistic, patient-centred approach and supports her patients with evidence-based advice on exercise medicine, nutrition, sleep, smoking cessation, and healthy lifestyle choices, helping them optimise their treatment, recovery, and long-term wellbeing. She believes that empowering patients with knowledge enables them to play an active role in their treatment and recovery.

Personal Interests

Outside of her clinical practice, Dr Uherek enjoys travelling, reading and spending time with her family and friends. She has a particular interest in lifestyle medicine and the role of nutrition, physical activity and healthy living in supporting cancer prevention, treatment, and survivorship.
