Centre profile

We’re GenesisCare Newmarket, your new local cancer care partner. Everything we do is focused on designing better cancer care. We’re delivering this in Newmarket by partnering with local medical professionals and tapping into our global network of expertise. We provide advanced radiotherapy and chemotherapy as well as diagnostic and wellbeing services. If you need fast access, let us know and we’ll make it happen.
We believe better care goes beyond the treatment. A cancer diagnosis is tough. We’re with every patient, every step of the way, offering practical and emotional support. It’s holistic, patient-centred and evidence-based care.

Radiotherapy

We provide state-of-the-art radiotherapy treatments. We provide IMRT (and VMAT) and IGRT alongside innovative approaches for the best results.

This includes:

• Highly accurate set-ups based on the latest surface technology (SGRT).

• Deep Inspiration Breath Hold radiotherapy (DIBH). More information on this treatment below.

SpaceOAR® Hydrogel

For men with cancer of the prostate, we’ve adopted SpaceOAR® Hydrogel as part of our standard radiotherapy regime and it’s available at no extra cost. SpaceOAR is a pioneering implantation device not readily available via the NHS. A soft gel implant creates a space between the prostate and the rectum. Clinical trials and everyday practice have shown this means significantly safer radiotherapy than standard. And improved outcomes in terms of urinary, bowel and potency endpoints. If you want to know more about SpaceOAR® Hydrogel, please get in touch.

Chemotherapy

Our specialist chemotherapy nurses regard exceptional care – and fast access to treatment – as the norm. Chemotherapy treatment is provided in a dedicated suite of rooms and private pods. And there’s a comfortable lounge for friends and relatives too.

Radiotherapy treatments with us

Daily, image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT) uses high-quality images to confirm the location of the targeted treatment area before each radiation treatment is delivered.

At GenesisCare, where appropriate, we use IGRT every time we deliver a treatment. This ensures that the radiation is focussed in the correct area and improves outcomes.

Intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) shapes radiation beams to deliver a dose that is sculpted to the size and shape of the targeted treatment area. This means that only the necessary area receives treatment, minimising the dose to the surrounding area and damage to healthy tissue.

Surface Guided Radiation Therapy (SGRT) is an advanced technology used in radiotherapy, it uses sophisticated 3D camera technology to more accurately target treatment. SGRT helps ensure radiation is delivered safely by monitoring a patient’s position during treatment, in all 6 degrees of freedom.

SGRT ensures the maximum dose is delivered to the treatment area, whilst eliminating radiation being administered to healthy cells outside of the planned treatment area.

Volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) is a very accurate type of IMRT. It works by delivering a continuous beam of radiotherapy in an arc which moves around the targeted area. The machine continuously reshapes and changes the intensity of the radiation beam as it moves around the body. Treatment sessions with VMAT are much shorter, usually between two and four minutes long.

Deep inspiration breath-hold (DIBH) is a technique which is most commonly used by patients with cancer in the left breast.

By taking a deep breath and holding it while a radiation beam is delivered, the lungs expand and the heart is pushed away from the area being treated, thereby reducing the risk of potential, long term cardiac side effects.
