Dave’s 155 mile cycle for Penny Brohn UK
On 9 May 2020, our very own Dave Wastall, Clinical Imaging Systems Administrator at GenesisCare, was supposed to be participating in the 155-mile circuit London Revolution Ultra ride to raise money for our partner charity Penny Brohn UK. Unfortunately, this was cancelled due to Covid-19.
Dave’s sheer determination to complete the challenge for Penny Brohn UK and to cover his longest distance in a single day did not stop. From indoor training during strict lockdown measures to beginning to cycle further distances when the restrictions were lifted – Dave did not stop peddling! And within government guidelines Dave decided to complete the 155 mile circuit by doing 3 laps of a route close to his home in Kent.
We’re so proud of Dave and to support his effort we’re matching the total amount he raises!
Read Dave’s experience:
“So, it’s the day after my ride and I can report I’m pretty tired and achy but very happy to have completed 155 miles! I started at 6:00 and had finished my first lap by just after 9:15. Upon arriving home there was just enough time to refill my drinks bottles before setting off on the second lap at 10. The second lap was the hardest because the headwind increased in strength for a third of the lap, but I was not defeated and completed it by 13:45 and came home to find a puncture in the front tyre! A quick refuel and 15 minutes changing wheels, I set off on my final lap at 15:00. With 30 miles to go I hit a real brick wall and stopped off at a newsagents to buy a bottle of full fat Coke, eventually getting home at around 19:15. (Never underestimate how much sugar there is in full fat Coke!)
Anyway, here are some pictures my wife took of me at the end of the ride and the resulting route in Strava. Looking back on it today, I had a great time (I didn’t always think so yesterday!)”
On behalf of GenesisCare and Penny Brohn UK we’d like to say a huge well done and thank you to Dave!
