Clinical interests in non-malignant haematological conditions, general haematology.
Dr Hurst graduated from the University of Adelaide in 1996. Haematology training was undertaken in Adelaide and with the Australian Red Cross Blood Service (ARCBS). Her time at ARCBS included research regarding iron deficiency anaemia. She spent some fellowship time in England at Cambridge University in part acquiring laboratory and investigative skills integral to her PhD which was also awarded by the University of Adelaide. Her PhD looked at platelet pathways in the setting of arterial thrombosis.
Dr Hurst consults as a general haematologist, with broad interests including non-malignant haematology. Through her position as a laboratory Haematologist at Australian Clinical Labs (formerly Gribbles) she is able to integrate laboratory diagnosis with patient care. She is a member of the South Australian Blood Management Council and is a former member of the South Australian blood user group. She also holds a part-time consultant appointment in the Acute Medicine Unit at the Queen Elizabeth hospital which includes the acute management of venous thromboembolism (VTE).
