WA First: World-class treatment technology launched at new Hollywood Consulting Centre
Perth, Western Australia: GenesisCare and Ramsay Health Care have today announced the launch of Brainlab ExacTrac Dynamic®, a high precision cancer treatment technology which has been installed at Hollywood Private Hospital’s new cancer centre.
The first of its kind in WA, the ExacTrac Dynamic system combines high-speed thermal surface-tracking technology with advanced X-ray monitoring to deliver highly precise doses of radiation to tumours while minimising exposure to surrounding healthy tissue.
The ExacTrac Dynamic system is capable of delivering highly advanced treatment techniques, including stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT) and stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), as well as tattoo-free radiation therapy for suitable patients.
GenesisCare Radiation Oncologist, Dr Yvonne Zissiadis, said: “The ExacTrac Dynamic system is heralding a new era for stereotactic radiation therapy in WA.”
“The technology combines revolutionary new thermal-surface camera technology with real-time X-ray tracking to deliver highly precise doses of radiation to tumours of the brain, breast, prostate, neck, lungs, liver and spine,” said Dr Zissiadis.
“The surface-camera technology provides thousands of reference points on a patient’s skin, allowing our radiation therapists to track movements in real-time with sub-millimetre accuracy and eliminating the need for permanent tattoos in many patients.”
The technology will be unveiled this morning at the official opening of the $48m Hollywood Consulting Centre.
The world-class facility brings together a suite of cancer services, complementing the existing cancer services available at the hospital.
The Hollywood Consulting Centre features:
- GenesisCare radiation oncology centre
- Breast Cancer Research Centre WA incorporating Perth Breast Cancer Institute
- Perth Radiological Clinic – a practice specialising in cancer imaging
- An endoscopy suite with four procedure rooms, 17 recovery bays and 14 discharge pods
- 37 medical consulting rooms
- A 280-bay multi-storey car park, providing patients with convenient access to the centre.
Hollywood Chief Executive Officer Peter Mott said the new centre ensured patients undergoing cancer treatment have ease of access to the latest technology and techniques.
“The Hollywood Consulting Centre brings together leading experts to focus on the early diagnosis, treatment and aftercare of a wide range of cancers,” Mr Mott said.
“Patients will receive integrated cancer care with medical and radiation oncologists, haematologists, surgeons, radiologists, nurses and clinical trial researchers all on the one campus.”
Services available at the centre include CT, MRI, nuclear medicine, real-time X-ray tracking, ultrasound, radiotherapy treatment and mammography.
“Having worked in the local community for over 20 years, it is an absolute privilege to partner with Ramsay Health Care to open this new cancer centre, which will offer local cancer patients access to a multidisciplinary team of specialists, integrated services, innovative technology and world-class clinical trials,” said Dr Zissiadis.
Cancer is a leading cause of death in WA, accounting for approximately three in every 10 deaths, with an estimated 13,360 cancer cases diagnosed annually.1 The two most common cancers in WA men and women respectively are prostate cancer and breast cancer.2
Mr Mott said a multidisciplinary approach to cancer care leads to improved patient outcomes.
“We are proud to be officially opening the Hollywood Consulting Centre today, which will ensure patients have access to comprehensive cancer care at Hollywood.”
“We are excited to also welcome GenesisCare to our highly skilled network of clinicians at Hollywood and to be unveiling this exciting new treatment technology.”
Louise Coffey, General Manager for GenesisCare Oncology in WA, said: “GenesisCare has been providing high-quality radiation oncology services to West Australians for more than 30 years and we are deeply committed to investing in new technology, services and people to ensure our patients can achieve the best possible life outcomes.”
“The new state-of-the-art radiation oncology facility within the Hollywood Consulting Centre will offer the latest technology and treatment techniques, including deep inspiration breath hold (DIBH) for left-sided breast cancer patients, stereotactic radiosurgery and stereotactic body radiation therapy, tattoo-free treatments and access to clinical trials.”
“We look forward to partnering with Ramsay’s network of highly renowned clinicians, along with Breast Cancer Research Centre WA and Perth Radiological Clinic, to offer patients access to a best-in-class integrated cancer care centre.”
