Charity cycle ride

Charity cycle ride

This September, our UK General Manager, Justin Hely, is taking on an enormous personal challenge to raise funds for our charity partner Penny Brohn UK!

While Justin has been the typical ‘weekend warrior’ peddling around the Hampshire countryside with coffee and cake stops, this is a completely different level. In September 2022, Justin will be cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats, a gruelling ride of 980 miles which he plans to complete in just 9 days.

Justin explained “I’m serious about making a real difference, not only to patients at GenesisCare but to all patients who have been diagnosed with cancer. Training while holding down my job and trying to be a dad and husband has, in all honesty, been really tough. However, my mantra is Get It Done!”

We recognise that an integrative cancer care approach is proven to reduce cancer-related concerns. That’s why we offer exercise medicine and wellbeing services alongside the most advanced cancer treatments and latest innovations. This combination is designed to help patients achieve the best outcomes possible. I know our unique partnership with Penny Brohn UK means that our patients have free access to their services, and they tell us how they appreciate the emotional and psychological benefits that Penny Brohn UK provides. By undertaking this challenge I’m aiming to enable many other people with cancer to also have access to and benefit from them.

Wellbeing is an important aspect of cancer care and patients appreciate this extra level of support that is available to help them throughout their cancer journey. Penny Brohn UK provides a range of support and therapies including:

  • relaxation and mindfulness sessions
  • reflexology
  • acupuncture
  • counselling

These wellbeing services can improve patients’ mental health, help to relieve anxieties, and can positively impact their quality of life. All the services provided are personally tailored to a patient’s individual needs and preferences.

The facilities and services available at GenesisCare go way beyond just the chemo and radiotherapy and I made sure I took full advantage of their integrative cancer care approach, which provides complementary treatments that support the whole patient, not just their cancer. They provide reflexology and acupuncture, in their centre, through their partnership with Penny Brohn UK which I found to be extremely beneficial as it helped me relax and relieved tension.
