Expert in advanced techniques for awake brain tumour surgery and endoscopic minimally invasive brain surgery
Professor Plaha is a highly experienced Consultant Brain Tumour Surgeon and A/Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Oxford. He has been a Consultant Neurosurgeon at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford University Hospitals, since 2012, where he leads the Oxford Brain Tumour Team (MDT) and the Thames Valley Cancer Network for brain tumours. He is also the Surgical Director for Neuro-Oncology at GenesisCare UK.
He has developed minimally invasive techniques for removing brain tumours and is one of the most experienced surgeons in the UK performing awake brain surgery, using advanced methods to make surgery as safe as possible.
Alongside his surgical work, Professor Plaha leads research in Oxford looking at how brain tumours affect the brain’s networks, and how new treatments and techniques – including immunotherapy and clinical trials – can improve outcomes for patients. He is the Chief Investigator of two major national trials (FUTURE-GB and RECURRENT-GB), focused on developing better treatments for glioblastoma.
Professor Plaha regularly provides second opinions for patients with complex brain tumours, both from across the UK and internationally. He sees patients at GenesisCare in Oxford and also at The Wellington Hospital, St John’s Wood, London.
