Blood cancer diagnosis and treatment, myeloproliferative neoplasms, myelodysplasia, mastocytosis, chronic myeloid leukaemia

Professor Adam Mead is a Consultant Haematologist and internationally recognised expert in myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) and chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML). Based at Oxford University Hospitals and the University of Oxford, he leads a specialist clinical and research team focused on developing better treatments for patients with blood cancers.

With over 20 years of experience in haematology, Professor Mead has led more than 50 clinical trials and is passionate about bringing cutting-edge science to patient care. His research has helped uncover why some blood cancers become resistant to treatment and how inflammation plays a key role. He is a past chair (2016-2022) of the National Cancer Research Institute myeloproliferative neoplasms clinical study group. Professor Mead has published over 150 research articles and is Editor-in-Chief of Postgraduate Haematology, a 58 chapter textbook aimed at clinical and laboratory haematologists that is widely used internationally.

I chose haematology as a career because it is at the forefront of the application of scientific research towards the provision of tailored, long-term care for patients. I’m passionate about turning discoveries in the lab and clinical trials into real benefits for people
