GenesisCare Welcomes The Australian Cancer Plan

GenesisCare Welcomes The Australian Cancer Plan

Sydney, Australia – GenesisCare today welcomed the release of The Australian Cancer Plan, a 10-year strategy to accelerate world class cancer outcomes and improve the lives of Australians affected by cancer via a national framework.

GenesisCare’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Marie Burke OAM, welcomed the Plan’s strategic objectives and national framework.

“As Australia’s largest private provider of cancer care services, GenesisCare welcomes The Australian Cancer Plan. The national framework sets out a robust roadmap for the sector, which is vitally important given there are over one million people alive in Australia who are currently living with or have lived with cancer,” Dr Burke said.

“We also welcome the strong focus on personalised models of care and prevention, particularly given that over the next decade new technologies will become available that will enable even more personalised treatment of cancer.”

Dr Burke said GenesisCare was pleased with the Plan’s focus on achieving equity for all Australians when it comes to cancer treatment.

“GenesisCare has always had a focus on enabling access to modern treatments and innovations to as many Australians as possible, no matter their post code. We operate more than a dozen cancer treatment centres in regional locations to offer local patients high quality cancer care without the burden of having to travel to a metropolitan area.”

The Plan also aligns with GenesisCare’s focus on partnering with consumers (patients, their families, and the local community) to co-design services and foster a warm and welcoming environment for all, including minority groups.

GenesisCare plays a critical role in communities across Australia, treating approximately 30,000 patients each year at 48 sites across five states in line with our mission to achieve the best possible life outcomes for patients.

Dr Burke said GenesisCare looked forward to working with the Australian Government and all stakeholders in the cancer care sector to deliver on the goals and priorities of the Plan.
