Special clinical interest in breast, gynaecology and skin cancers.
After graduating in Medicine in 1989, Dr Anwar gained a vast clinical experience in different disciplines of Medicine and Surgery before entering the West Midlands training scheme for Clinical Oncology. He was appointed a full time Consultant in Clinical Oncology at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (University Hospital) Birmingham in 2005. He does peripheral clinics at Good Hope Hospital and is part of a multidisciplinary breast cancer team at the QEH, Gynaecological cancer team at the GHH and City Hospital.
Dr Anwar has been involved in the Pan Birmingham Network Site Specific Group as deputy Chair followed by Chair for 5 years in total until 2013. He has been the Chair of WMH chemotherapy Group and Lead for breast cancer trials. He has also been Lead for the Pan Birmingham NSSG Gynaecological cancer trials and is involved in various clinical trials of chemotherapy, radiotherapy and hormonal and biological therapies as Principal Investigator and an investigator.
Dr Anwar teaches medical students and is a regular speaker at the MSc Clinical Oncology course at the University of Birmingham. His main role is the management of patients with breast, all types of gynaecological and non-melanoma skin cancers.
