Special clinical interest in gynaecological cancer.

Dr Al-Booz is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist who specialises in chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment for gynaecological cancers. She has expertise and a special interest in using specialised radiotherapy techniques such as Brachytherapy and IMRT.

Her experience has been built over years of specialist training in Leeds and Bristol. In Leeds she completed a Masters degree in Medical Science of Oncology and MD research on Prostate Brachytherapy. In Bristol she led research about normal organs that are at risk of being damaged by internal radiotherapy (Brachytherapy), as part of my interest in the radiobiology of high dose radiation used in Brachytherapy.

Dr Al-Booz regularly attends the National and International medical and radiation oncology scientific meetings and conferences. She works closely with the Wales and South West Head and Neck oncologists and the South West Gynaecology oncologists. Both groups meet bi-annually to share and discuss clinical protocols, trials and she peer reviews their practices.

Dr Al-Booz is a core member of both multidisciplinary Head and Neck and Gynae-oncology teams in Bristol. Both her private and NHS patients benefit from speedy referral to surgeons when needed.

She teaches as a Clinical Teacher in the School of Clinical Sciences in the University of Bristol, and lectures at the University of the West of England to both under and post graduate students.

She has obtained the Radiation Oncology Fellowship of both the Royal College of Radiologist in London and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. She then set up the Bristol Gynae-oncology course, which is the first in the UK to handle Gynae-oncology from diagnosis to all modalities of treatment.

The course is being accredited by the Royal College of General Practitioners, and aims to speed the early diagnosis and management of Gynaecological cancers. The course has been a success for the third year and excellent feedback from candidates is constantly received.
