GenesisCare nurse practitioner in the running for Queensland nurse of the year!
Our very own Natasha Keir is one of three finalists for Queensland Nurse of the Year
Natasha Keir is a nurse practitioner who leads the Breast Cancer Wellness Clinics (BCWC) at GenesisCare. Natasha is one of three finalists for Queensland Nurse of the Year for developing and implementing the BCWC.
Natasha is uniquely placed as a specialist breast cancer nurse practitioner, amongst only four other practitioners like her in Australia. This requires completion of additional university study at a master’s degree level and is one of the most senior and independent clinical nursing roles in our health care system.
The BCWC was developed with a focus on transitioning patients from acute treatment and supporting their ongoing wellbeing. The clinic assists with readjusting to life after cancer treatment and covers physical, emotional, sexual and social impacts of having breast cancer.

The success of the BCWC model has led to its expansion across Queensland, with six clinics now operating across GenesisCare sites and a seventh set to open at the new Redcliffe centre. Supported by specialist breast care nurses, the clinics provide personalised care focused on transitioning patients from acute treatment and supporting their ongoing wellbeing. "As an experienced Nurse Practitioner in Breast Oncology, I recognised a gap in healthcare service delivery for patients with breast cancer and developed the Breast Cancer Wellness Clinic in 2024."
The role of the clinic is to offer personalised, patient-centred care to support patients with their overall wellbeing, symptom management, and any concerns they may have following diagnosis and treatment. The clinic assists patients to transition into longer-term survivorship, provides follow-up planning, and ultimately improves health outcomes.
"I feel really proud of the work we’ve achieved with the clinics, and honoured to be nominated for this award."
