Biography
Clinical interests include breast, lung, gastrointestinal (upper and lower), palliative and stereotactic radiation therapy.
Sophia completed a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) at the University of Queensland before undertaking her specialist radiation oncology training across various centres in Queensland. In 2022, she was awarded Fellowship to the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (FRANZCR).
Sophia subsequently undertook fellowship training at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto, Canada, focusing on thoracic and gastrointestinal cancers. There she gained extensive experience in advanced radiation techniques, including MR-Linac guided radiation and stereotactic radiation therapy. She was actively involved in research, with her work recognised at multiple international conferences.
Sophia is dedicated to offering personalised care through the provision of modern treatment techniques including volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), image guided radiation therapy (IGRT), deep inspiration breath hold (DIBH), tattoo-less breast radiotherapy and stereotactic radiation therapy.
She regularly participates in multidisciplinary team meetings and believes in an evidence-based approach to patient care. Sophia is the GenesisCare clinical lead doctor for breast cancer in South East Queensland and has ongoing involvement in breast cancer trials. She works collaboratively with the dedicated GenesisCare breast care specialist nurse and on-site allied health team to achieve the best outcomes for her patients.
Sophia is an active participant in clinical research, recruiting patients to the PREDICT study to improve outcomes for patients with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) of the breast. Her current major technical interests are in the use of surface guidance to allow for tattoo-less treatment and breath-hold techniques to reduce side effects for breast cancer patients.
Sophia has an interest in global oncology and was privileged to be able to participate in the Global Oncology Leadership Development (GOLD) program in Toronto, which was designed to equip fellows with the skills, networks, and opportunities to develop as leaders in cancer care at local, regional and international levels.
Sophia works across many tumour types and has clinical interests in the management of breast cancer, lung cancer, upper and lower gastrointestinal cancers, and palliative radiation therapy.
