Biography
Clinical interests in neuro-oncology (brain, skull base, spine), SABR/SRS, MRIgRT adaptive RT, thoracic, oligometastases, upper gastrointestinal, skin and urological cancers.
Dr Hendrick Tan completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Western Australia (UWA) and began his medical career at Royal Perth Hospital. He undertook specialist training in radiation oncology at Sir Charles Gairdner and Fiona Stanley Hospitals, followed by a clinical research fellowship at the Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre in Toronto, Canada, focusing on neuro-oncology, thoracic oncology, SABR, and MRI-guided radiotherapy.
Dr Tan led the clinical introduction of MRI-guided adaptive radiotherapy in Western Australia, pioneering the implementation of MR-Linac technology in patient care. He is an active member of the TROG CNS Working Group, the TROG Thoracic Working Group, and the TROG MR in radiotherapy Special Interest Group. He is also a member of several leading cancer trial groups, including the American Society of Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) and the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO). He has delivered presentations at international and national meetings and authored multiple publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals, with a research focus on novel imaging, SABR, and treatment strategies to improve patient outcomes.
Dr Tan is also deeply involved in teaching and education. He has served as a clinical oncology lecturer at UWA, a clinical examiner for radiation oncology trainees at the University of Toronto, and is currently a final-year medical student examiner at UWA, as well as a Phase 1 examiner for radiation oncology trainees in Australia. His contributions to education were recognised with the “Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award by a Clinical Fellow” from the University of Toronto.

Hendrick’s key clinical interests are in neuro-oncology (brain, skull base, spine), thoracic, oligometastases, upper gastrointestinal, skin and urological cancers. His current technical interests are in the field of SABR, stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and adaptive MRIgRT technology. He also has special interest in patient-reported outcomes and population databases.
