Biography
Clinical Interests in thoracic, gastrointestinal (upper and lower), breast and palliative radiation therapy.
Dr Sophia Ly, originally born in Canada, pursued her medical education at the University of Queensland after obtaining her undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto. She obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) in 2012 and completed her specialist radiation oncology training in Queensland in 2022.
Following this, Sophia specialised further with a one-year fellowship at one of the world’s leading cancer research and treatment institutes, The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto, Canada, focusing on Thoracic and Gastrointestinal cancers. There she gained extensive experience in advanced radiation techniques including MR-Linac guided radiation and stereotactic body radiation. She was also actively involved in research, with her work recognised in multiple international conferences.
Sophia also has an interest in Global Oncology and was privileged to be able to participate in the Global Oncology Leadership Development (GOLD) program in Toronto, which was designed to equip fellows with the skills, networks, and opportunities to develop as leaders in cancer care at a local, regional and international level.
Sophia is excited to be back in Brisbane where she has commenced her private practice with GenesisCare. She will be treating a comprehensive range of cancers, with special interest in Thoracic, Breast and Gastrointestinal cancers as well as Palliative radiation. Sophia will be attending the Wesley, Chermside, Buderim and Noosa centres on a weekly basis.
