GenesisCare, Campbelltown Centre Opens

New $54 million cancer centre opens in one of Australia’s fastest growing cities

  • Integrated cancer centre opens as part of new Macarthur Health Precinct developed by Northwest Healthcare Properties, through its NZX-listed fund Vital Healthcare Property Trust.
  • Environment and sustainability a key focus with the new cancer centre targeting a 6-Star Green-Star-rating.
  • Campbelltown population which is set to boom over the next 15 years, with an estimated population growth of around 47.4% by 2041.1

Campbelltown, NSW – Cancer care provider, GenesisCare, is now treating patients at a new $54 million integrated cancer centre and research hub in Campbelltown.

Today marked the official opening of the new facility that has the capacity to deliver more than 13,000 cancer treatments annually and create more than 30 immediate jobs in healthcare, growing to 60 jobs as services expand over time.

The new centre brings advanced cancer care closer to home for the South West Sydney community and people living in the Southern Highlands. The development, comprising four-stories across 3,927sqm of gross floor area, has the ability to upscale and increase capacity to meet future demand in the region as the population grows and ages.

GenesisCare now offers radiation therapy, chemotherapy, haematology, and selection into clinical trials and research programs at the new centre, with plans to offer Theranostics and nuclear medicine in the future. Patients can also access pathology and allied health services offered by our partners under the same roof, with diagnostic imaging to be available in the coming months.

The development is the result of a partnership between Campbelltown City Council, cancer care provider GenesisCare, construction company Erilyan, and Northwest Healthcare Properties – Australia’s largest owner, manager, and developer of healthcare property.

More than 1500 workers, including 750 local sub-contractors, have been employed during the construction of this project, with over 220,000 working hours logged.

Politicians, local leaders, doctors, and key community members officially opened the building today, marking the completion of Stage 1 of a multi-staged health precinct being developed by Northwest. The site is designed to meet the critical and rapidly growing need for private healthcare in the thriving Macarthur region.

The precinct is surrounded by green open spaces such as Koshigaya Park and is conveniently located close to Narellan Road and the M5, creating ease of access for patients travelling to and from the centre from the wider region.

NSW Health Minister, Ryan Park, said: “This fantastic new facility provides greater access to cancer treatments for the local community, closer to home.

“One of the key services offered at the centre is radiation therapy, with the majority of the treatment costs covered by Medicare depending on individual circumstances.”

GenesisCare’s General Manager in NSW, Richard Briggs, said: “We’re proud to begin treating cancer patients closer to their homes in South-Western Sydney and the Southern Highlands.

“GenesisCare strives to provide high-quality care that’s personalised and tailored to the patient. We always aim to treat the person not the condition. Our services will complement and work with existing cancer treatment providers in Campbelltown, supporting one of Australia’s fastest growing cities.

“Our doctors are well established in the local area. They either work, live and teach in South West Sydney and know this community well.”

GenesisCare’s services will completement existing services in the region, including The Macarthur Cancer Therapy Centre at Campbelltown Public Hospital who have been providing high quality comprehensive cancer care to the region since 2003.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Dr George Greiss, said: “Campbelltown is proud to be the home of this fantastic new facility, which expands on the great work being done in the public sector and will provide much-needed services to our community.

“This facility demonstrates the balance between architectural excellence and high-quality service provision, and the realisation of this project is proof of what can be achieved through a strong partnership. Not only does this facility provide high-value jobs in the heart of our city centre, it ensures strategic land is put to best use for the benefit of our community,” he said.

Northwest Healthcare Properties Senior Vice President of Precincts, Alex Belcastro, said: “We are proud to be developing this market-leading, multi-stage healthcare precinct in Campbelltown. Today’s opening of the first stage, GenesisCare’s integrated cancer centre, marks an important milestone in the sustainable delivery of these healthcare services. The building is designed to achieve a 6 Star Green Star rating, showcasing our commitment to sustainability.

“In collaboration with Campbelltown City Council, our partnership via the NZX-listed Vital Healthcare Property Trust aims to draw top talent to Macarthur, elevate the quality of patient care, and provide treatments in a convenient and local setting. We are eagerly anticipating the precinct’s expansion, with plans underway for a short-stay surgical hospital and additional complementary services. Our Development Application for Stage 2 is already in progress.”

Erilyan’s joint CEO and Founding Partner, Karl Mayoh, said: “We at Erilyan are so proud of this project for many reasons. It’s setting out to improve the lives of cancer patients, offering residents of Campbelltown and surrounds access to high quality healthcare in an innovative healthcare precinct. There is nothing more rewarding for our team, who have been instrumental in this incredible project from start to finish.

“With the help of our long-term and forward-thinking client GenesisCare, our team brought it to life through the acquisition, planning, compliance, and construction phases. The fact that Campbelltown Council not only saw and supported our vision, but shared it too, has been instrumental in this project’s success, resulting in the completion of the impressive 6 Star-targeted Green Star building that now has its place in such a tight knit community.”
