A/Prof Dion Forstner is a radiation oncologist with GenesisCare, where he has worked since 2018. His clinical practice focuses on head and neck, skin and haematological cancers, with a strong interest in the appropriate use of new technologies in cancer care. Dion consults primarily at GenesisCare at St Vincent’s Clinic, Darlinghurst, and the Mater Hospital, North Sydney. He is also Director of Cancer Services at St Vincent’s Health Network Sydney, based at the Kinghorn Cancer Centre.

Before joining GenesisCare, Dion was Head of the Department of Radiation Oncology in South Western Sydney Local Health District for nine years, having previously practised in the region for many years. Originally from Tasmania, he graduated with honours in medicine from the University of Tasmania in 1994 and completed his radiation oncology training in South Australia.

Dion is a Conjoint Associate Professor at UNSW Sydney and an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Notre Dame Australia. Education and mentorship have been important throughout his career, with a particular focus on supporting trainees, junior specialists, and the sustainability and wellbeing of the cancer workforce.

Alongside his clinical practice, Dion has held several senior leadership and advocacy roles in Australian cancer care. He is an elected member of the Board of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR), a member of Cancer Australia’s Advisory Council, and Chair of Cancer Australia’s Intercollegiate Advisory Group. He is also a member of the NSW Radiation Advisory Council.

From 2014 to 2018, Dion served as Dean of the Faculty of Radiation Oncology at RANZCR, leading the professional body representing radiation oncologists in Australia and New Zealand, with a particular focus on quality, workforce, education and advocacy. He is a Past President of the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia (COSA) and a Past Chair of Head and Neck Cancer Australia.

Dion has a longstanding interest in ensuring that advances in radiation oncology are introduced appropriately and supported by sustainable models of care. For more than a decade, he played a leading role in the development of the new Medicare Benefits Schedule for radiation oncology, introduced in 2024.

Throughout his clinical, academic and leadership roles, Dion’s focus has remained on delivering high-quality, contemporary cancer care while supporting the people and systems needed to provide that care into the future.
