Biography
Clinical interest in breast and genitourinary cancers.
Dr Julia Chen is a consultant medical oncologist specialising in the treatment of breast and genitourinary cancers. She obtained her medical degree with honours from UNSW. She completed internal medicine and medical oncology advanced training at St George and Prince of Wales Hospitals, followed by a clinical research fellowship at the Kinghorn Cancer Centre, St Vincent's Hospital.
She worked as a consultant medical oncologist at the Kinghorn Cancer Centre before starting her current role as a Staff Specialist at St George and Sutherland Hospitals. She is part of the multidisciplinary teams for breast and genitourinary cancers at St George Hospital, and is a committee member of the Cancer Institute NSW eviQ reference committee for breast cancer.
Dr Chen is a clinician-scientist and a passionate researcher. She has completed her PhD at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research investigating the biology of triple-negative breast cancer using cutting-edge single-cell genomic and spatial technologies. She continues to work as a research fellow at the Garvan. Dr Chen is also a dedicated educator, she is a conjoint senior lecturer at UNSW and is the primary supervisor for Medical Oncology advanced trainees at St George and Sutherland Hospitals.
