Richard Lizzio to be appointed as Chief Executive Officer of GenesisCare Australia

Richard Lizzio to be appointed as Chief Executive Officer of GenesisCare Australia

Sydney, Australia – GenesisCare, Australia’s largest private cancer care provider, today announced Richard Lizzio’s appointment as Chief Executive Officer of its Australian business.

Mr Lizzio joined GenesisCare in 2021 as Executive Manager for Oncology Australia. In this role, Mr Lizzio has consistently demonstrated a steadfast commitment to enabling doctors and clinical employees to deliver world-class care to patients across Australia.

His appointment as CEO of GenesisCare Australia will become effective once the company emerges from Chapter 11 to align with GenesisCare’s restructuring into three distinct businesses: one in Australia, one in the U.K., and one in Spain. The company’s new investors will also be retaining a U.S. business in selected regions as a separate investment.

GenesisCare’s Global CEO, David Young, said: “Following an extensive process, we are pleased to be appointing Richard as the CEO of GenesisCare Australia to drive our Australian business forward as we emerge from Chapter 11. Richard has led our Australian network through a challenging period with compassion and dedication to ensure the continued delivery of high-quality services across the country. I look forward to working alongside Richard as we further strengthen our foundations and accelerate GenesisCare’s growth trajectory.”

Prior to GenesisCare, Mr Lizzio held executive roles across the healthcare industry for St Vincent’s Health Australia, Healthscope, and Ramsay Health Care.

Mr Lizzio said: “GenesisCare’s doctors, clinical teams and employees are our greatest strength, and it has been a privilege working in partnership with them during my time at GenesisCare. While 2023 was a challenging year for the business as we progressed through our reorganisation, we are now approaching the beginning of a new phase and I am excited to support our teams to build on the momentum of our growing business in Australia.”

As part of GenesisCare’s strategy to increase access to high-quality care close to home, GenesisCare opened cancer care centres at South Terrace (SA) and Frenchs Forest (NSW) in 2023. It is now preparing for its next phase of growth, with the development of new centres under way in Campbelltown (NSW) and Noosa (QLD).
