At GenesisCare our team of Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurses (PCSN) aims to help support those who are affected by prostate cancer.
A diagnosis of prostate cancer can be a challenging time for patients and their families. Understanding treatment options, navigating different healthcare services and managing the physical and emotional effects of cancer can feel overwhelming.
GenesisCare’s Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse (PCSN) service provides patients and carers with an ongoing point of contact for information, support and guidance throughout their cancer journey.
The service is available to prostate cancer patients who live within the Gold Coast catchment area, regardless of whether they are receiving their cancer treatment through GenesisCare.
Personalised support throughout the cancer journey
At GenesisCare, our Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurses can provide evidence-based information about prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment, as well as personalised support during and after cancer therapy.
The service can help patients and carers with:
- Ongoing support: Providing a consistent point of contact for patients and carers throughout their cancer journey.
- Information and education: Providing evidence-based information about diagnosis, treatment options and managing treatment-related side effects.
- Coordinated care: Liaising with local oncology and healthcare services to help coordinate care and navigate available services.
- Access to supportive care: Helping patients access treatment, supportive care services and allied health professionals where appropriate.
- Support beyond treatment: Providing personalised information and support as patients transition into life after cancer treatment.
Connecting patients with the right support
The PCSN service is designed to help patients navigate the healthcare system and connect with the services they need at different stages of their prostate cancer journey.
Patients or family members can self-refer to the service, or they can be referred by a healthcare professional. This is a free service for all eligible patients with a confirmed prostate cancer diagnosis
