Biography
Clinical interest in lung, skin, gastrointestinal, and genitourinary cancers.
Dr Gonzalo Tapia Rico completed his medical degree at the Complutense University of Madrid in 2007 and his specialist training in Medical Oncology at Gregorio Marañón University Hospital, one of Spain’s leading hospitals, in 2012. In 2013, he was awarded a PhD for research into molecular subtypes of breast cancer.
Dr Tapia Rico subsequently worked as a Medical Oncologist in the United Kingdom at the Royal Infirmary and Western General Hospital in Edinburgh, and Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. After moving to Australia in 2016, he worked at both The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
Dr Tapia Rico has a strong interest in education, clinical trials, and research. He is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Adelaide and has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in leading oncology journals. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP), serves on the RACP Overseas-Trained Physicians Subcommittee, which evaluates the comparability of international specialists seeking to practise in Australia, and is a member of several Australian and international cancer research groups.
His clinical practice covers a broad range of solid tumour malignancies, with particular interests in skin, gastrointestinal, and genitourinary cancers.
