GenesisCare boosts cancer treatment technology in Bunbury
Bunbury, Australia – GenesisCare in Bunbury is boosting its cancer treatment equipment with a new state-of-the-art radiation therapy machine that will enable treatment for more than 800 patients from the South West region every year and cut the number of treatment sessions for some patients.
The new linear accelerator machine, also known as the Versa HD by Elekta, is an essential tool in the delivery of radiation therapy to cancer patients. The Versa HD is an advanced model that aims to deliver faster and more precise radiotherapy to a broad range of tumours and traditionally challenging cases while protecting critical structures such as spine, heart or bladder.

GenesisCare Radiation Oncologist Dr Nina Stewart said: “Our team at GenesisCare in Bunbury is pleased to introduce this tool for the benefit of our local community and patients from across the South West region. The upgrade enables us to offer advanced radiation therapy techniques for prostate cancer and selected early-stage cancers of the lung, liver and kidney, as well as treatment for bone metastases,” Dr Stewart said.
“For some patients, these highly precise treatments can be delivered in as few as five sessions, compared with traditional treatment courses that may require four to eight weeks of daily radiation therapy. Shorter treatment schedules can significantly reduce the number of visits to the clinic, which is particularly important in regional areas where many patients travel long distances to access care. These techniques allow us to deliver radiation with a high degree of precision, targeting the tumour while minimising exposure to surrounding healthy tissue, which may help reduce treatment-related side effects and improve a patient’s quality of life.”
