GenesisCare opens medical oncology infusion suite at Western Hospital
Henley Beach, Australia – South Australia’s largest private provider of cancer care, GenesisCare, has officially opened a new medical oncology infusion suite at Western Hospital at Henley Beach.
Patients are now accessing medical oncology and haematology treatments at the hospital delivered by the Adelaide Oncology and Haematology (AOAH) team, a part of GenesisCare. Available therapies include chemotherapy, immunotherapy, blood transfusions, bisphosphonates, and iron infusions, complementing existing medical oncology and haematology consulting services.
The re-establishment of medical oncology treatments at Western Hospital follows strong advocacy and petitioning from the local community with more than 1,200 signatures supporting the return of medical oncology services to the hospital.
Jenny Read, a GenesisCare patient who also works at Western Hospital and is counted as the hospital’s longest standing team member after 42 years of service said: “It means a lot to see medical oncology treatments resume here at the hospital. I live five-minutes away and have strong personal connections to the hospital, which is also my workplace. I had my babies at the hospital, I’ve been a part of the fundraising committee; I’m so pleased to receive my care at the hospital again, in my community.”

GenesisCare Medical Oncologist, and Medical Oncology and Haematology Clinical Management Committee Chair, Dr Vy Broadbridge said: “GenesisCare is proud to bring this medical oncology infusion suite to Henley Beach, with capacity to offer 2500 treatments per year.”
“Access to essential cancer care in one’s neighbourhood can reduce the need to commute between appointments and means patients can access treatment close to their support networks. We warmly acknowledge the patients and team members who are now returning to the hospital for medical oncology treatment as we strive to deliver highly personalised care and the best possible patient outcomes,” said Dr Broadbridge.
GenesisCare’s services are now accessible alongside Western Hospital’s existing facilities and broader expansion, which includes the recent addition of a 16-bed inpatient ward and a new day surgery clinic.
