Cancer care partnership continues for patients in Adelaide’s south-east
Bedford Park, Adelaide: Oncology care provider GenesisCare will continue its long-term public-private partnership with the Southern Adelaide Health Network for another three years to offer high-quality, evidence-based radiation therapy with no out-of-pocket costs for referred patients to its Bedford Park centre.
GenesisCare General Manager of South Australia, Duy Tran, said: “The continuation of this partnership and the resulting ongoing care means that patients referred through the public health system continue to have rapid access to radiation treatment at our Bedford Park centre with no upfront costs,” said Mr Tran.
“Our centre performs around 16,000 treatments a year and offers access to radiation therapy, allied health services, clinical trials for eligible patients, and access to nearby medical oncology and haematology services on the southern side of the city. This means patients living in Adelaide’s south-east and across the Fleurieu Peninsula, as far as Victor Harbor, can continue to access cancer care closer to their homes.”
“GenesisCare has a long history of caring for the south-east Adelaide community at this centre since the public-private partnership started 25-years ago and we’re pleased to continue for another three years.”
“Our local ties in the healthcare and the broader community strengthen our ability to offer high-quality, personalised care that treats the person as well as the disease. We look forward to deepening these connections with the aim of improving the treatment experience for our patients and to maintain GenesisCare’s high patient satisfaction ratings in South Australia (+92 Net Promoter Score1).”
GenesisCare patient David, a public patient who travelled from the south of Adelaide to attend treatment at Flinders Private Hospital said: “I am impressed by the professionalism and empathy of the GenesisCare staff.”
Radiation therapy holds an important place in cancer treatment, with modelling suggesting that almost half of Australians diagnosed with cancer would benefit from this therapy as part of their treatment plan.2 Radiation therapy uses high-energy radiation beams to destroy cancer cells.3 It can be used to treat all stages of cancer and is also used to relieve pain and discomfort from cancer that has spread.4
On average, radiation therapy patients at the centre commence treatment around 10 days after their referral is received. This is faster than the industry target and is expedited further for urgent cases.
