GenesisCare’s radiation therapy centre takes shape in Werribee as $5 million cancer-fighting equipment installed

GenesisCare’s radiation therapy centre takes shape in Werribee as $5 million cancer-fighting equipment installed

Werribee, Melbourne – GenesisCare is fitting-out its developing radiation therapy centre with the installation of cancer-fighting technology worth around $5 million dollars as the launch of the service at St Vincent’s Private Hospital, Werribee draws near.

The technology includes a state-of-the-art linear accelerator machine – an essential tool in the delivery of radiation treatment to cancer patients – that aims to target tumours with sub-millimetre accuracy by closely tracking patient movements during treatment. Once opened, the new centre will also offer surface-guided radiotherapy along with an on-site CT scan machine for the treatment of a wide-range of tumour types.

Delivered in partnership with St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee, GenesisCare’s new centre will be the first to offer radiation treatment to local cancer patients in the Wyndham area and will become part of the most comprehensive oncology service available in Melbourne’s western region once connected to the hospital’s existing cancer services.

GenesisCare’s Doctor Director and Radiation Oncologist Dr Mario Guerrieri said  delivery of cancer treatment technology marks an important milestone for the developing centre: “GenesisCare is pleased to share that the installation of our cancer treatment technology is underway, bringing us another step closer to offering our model of high-quality, personalised care to local patients when we open in the coming months,” said Dr Guerrieri.

“Our highly dedicated team will deliver best practice radiation therapy techniques with the new linear accelerator for a range of cancer types locally so patients will no longer need to commute half an hour or more to seek treatment.”

GenesisCare General Manager Victoria Brendan Foley said: “We’re pleased to watch the centre develop as we work towards opening the doors to local patients who will have more cancer care options close to their homes. Our $5 million investment into this technology is a part of a larger offering that will include a highly dedicated and caring team of medical specialists, a comfortable environment for patients, and convenient access to St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee’s established services.”
