Julie graduated from the University of Adelaide, MBBS with Distinction in 1978 and completed her physician training at Flinders Medical Centre and cardiology training at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. In 1985 Julie obtained her FRACP and became Adelaide’s first female Cardiologist. From 1985 – 1986 she studied Doppler echocardiography at the Brompton Hospital in London and in 2005 was awarded her FCSANZ.

Julie is a Senior Staff Specialist at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, an active member of the Structural Heart Disease program and Head of the Royal Adelaide Hospital Echocardiography Department.

She continues her interest in echocardiography, coronary angiography, women’s heart health issues and cardiac failure, and is further developing her interest in Non-Invasive Cardiac Imaging, in particular Coronary CT Angiography and Cardiac MRI.

Julie joined GenesisCare (formerly Adelaide Cardiology) in 2009 and consults at the St Andrew’s Medical Centre.

Vinod a Respiratory and Sleep Physician completed his advanced training in Respiratory Medicine at Flinders Medical Centre and followed this up with one year training in Sleep Medicine at the prestigious Adelaide Institute for Sleep Health, Repatriation General Hospital. He has clinical experience in all facets of Sleep Disorders and has a special interest in non-invasive ventilation.

Dr Daniel Cehic is a general cardiologist with subspecialist training in CardioOncology and Electrophysiology.

He graduated from medicine at the University of Adelaide in 1989 and trained at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Adelaide, Australia and the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, England. In 1997 he returned to Australia and commenced cardiology practice, in private practice and then also at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where he was a Senior Visiting Cardiologist until 2008.

Since 2009 he has focused on improving patient care and outcomes in private practice and he has held various national positions at GenesisCare since that time including Chief Medical Officer of Cardiology since 2017.

Daniel has Fellowships from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand and the International CardioOncology Society. He is also a member of the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia and has worked with EviQ to help establish protocols in the management of patients with pacemakers and defibrillators who are undergoing radiation therapy.

His active interests are in CardioOncology, quality medicine and best clinical outcomes for patients.

Georgy is an interventional cardiologist who completed his physician and advanced cardiology training in Ireland. He was admitted to the MRCP in Ireland (1998) and the United Kingdom (1999), completing his advanced cardiology training in 2005.

In 2006 Georgy moved to Australia where he completed a Fellowship in interventional cardiology at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. He became a senior fellow in 2008 working in the catheterisation laboratory and participating in associated interventional clinical trials and the primary angioplasty service.

Since 2009 Georgy has worked as a consultant cardiologist at the Royal Darwin Hospital and Darwin Private Hospitals before joining GenesisCare (formerly Adelaide Cardiology) in January 2012. Georgy has an interest in all aspects of clinical cardiology with a particular interest in interventional cardiology.

Georgy consults at our Leabrook, Modbury, Gawler and Broken Hill rooms and performs diagnostic and interventional procedures at St Andrew’s and Wakefield hospitals.

Special clinical interest in non invasive cardiac imaging and Adult Congenital Heart Disease

Patrick graduated from the University of Adelaide in 1996. He completed his internship, physician training and advanced cardiology training at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. He then pursued his interest in echocardiography by moving to Toronto, Canada for a 2 year clinical fellowship. While there he obtained experience in all areas of echocardiography and successfully passed the American Society of Echocardiography examination of Special Competency. He remains a Member of the American Society of Echocardiography. He was awarded the FRACP in 2002.

Following his time in Canada he pursued his other interest in adult congenital heart disease by spending 2004 at the Birmingham Grown Up Congenital Heart Unit, one of the largest units of its type in the U.K.

On returning to Adelaide, Patrick has taken a central role in running the echocardiography laboratory at GenesisCare (formerly Adelaide Cardiology). He has established an adult congenital heart disease clinic at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and has also worked closely with the Cardiology Department at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital to set up a transition clinic for adolescent patients. He is a member of the International Society of Adult Congenital Cardiac Disease.

Patrick divides his time between visiting sessions at the Women’s and Children’s and Royal Adelaide Hospitals, as well as private practice with Adelaide Cardiology.

Special clinical interest in transcatheter valve interventions (including TAVI), complex coronary interventions and coronary physiology

Dr Jerrett Lau graduated from the University of New South Wales with first class honours in 2007. He then completed his physician and cardiology training at Concord Hospital in Sydney. This was followed by a PhD in the areas of coronary physiology and platelet activation, awarded by the University of Sydney. He has since held positions as an honorary visiting medical officer at Concord Hospital and the TAVI/interventional fellow at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (UK).

He has held clinical lecturer positions at the University of Sydney Medical School, the University of Edinburgh and Bond University. He is well published and has presented and received numerous awards for his research and clinical work both locally and internationally. His other clinical interests include: PFO closure, ASD closure, paravalvular leak closure, alcohol septal ablation and transcatheter mitral valve interventions.

Dr Lau has moved from the UK to Adelaide with his family to join GenesisCare. He also holds a staff specialist position at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Dr Lau is a highly experienced coronary and structural interventional cardiologist and has particular clinical interests in transcatheter valve interventions (including TAVI), complex coronary interventions and coronary physiology.

Special clinical interests in coronary artery disease.

Joe graduated MBBS from the University of Adelaide in 1981 with distinction in both Medicine and Surgery. He completed physician training at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital before transferring to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in 1986 to begin advanced cardiology training.

In 1988 Joe worked as a clinical research fellow at Guys Hospital, London, where he was involved in the evaluation of laser therapy in the treatment of coronary disease. He also spent time at the Hammersmith Hospital improving his skills in the then developing field of colour doppler echocardiography. He was awarded the FRACP in 1988 and returned to Adelaide where he spent 12 months as senior registrar in interventional cardiology at the RAH before taking up a visiting consultancy there.

Joe is currently Medical Director of the RAH Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit, a unique position in Australia and works as an interventional cardiologist in the field of coronary artery disease. He has significant involvement in post graduate teaching.

Joe divides his time equally between his RAH commitments and private practice at GenesisCare (formerly Adelaide Cardiology). He is a fellow of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand and in July 2003 was awarded an Australian Centenary Medal by the Howard Government for Contribution to Australian Society in the field of Cardiology.

Jamie graduated from the University of Adelaide in 2001 and completed his internship at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. He then spent two years working in London, particularly at St Thomas’ Hospital.

Upon returning to Australia he moved to Sydney where he finished his general medical and advanced cardiology training at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, receiving a Distinguished Teacher Award in 2009. He was awarded his FRACP in 2010.

In 2013 he was awarded his PhD on the role high density lipoprotein cholesterol (the “good cholesterol”) plays in cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer by the Heart Research Institute, University of Sydney. This research was supported by a National Health and Medical Research Council and National Heart Foundation scholarship.

His work from this research has been presented at national and international conferences and has received awards from the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand and the Heart Research Institute.

He returned to Adelaide in 2013 to join GenesisCare (formerly Adelaide Cardiology) where he consults at our metropolitan and regional clinics. His specialised interest is diagnostic imaging, particularly echocardiography, transoesophageal echocardiography and CT coronary angiography.

Peter graduated from the University of Adelaide in 1992. He completed his physician training at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and cardiology training at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. He was awarded the FRACP in 1998.

In 2000 Peter completed a PhD in cardiovascular pharmacology and was awarded the Ralph Reader (Young Investigator) Prize for this research from the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand.

Following his PhD, he received an RACP scholarship to undertake research in restenosis following coronary angioplasty at the University of Sheffield, UK, and during this time completed a fellowship in interventional cardiology.

Peter is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Adelaide, a Senior Cardiologist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Director of Cardiology at St Andrews Hospital. He consults at the St Andrew’s Medical Centre and our Leabrook, Modbury, Unley Road, Kadina and Nuriootpa Clinics. Luay is a non-interventional Cardiologist who obtained his medical degree in Iraq, after which he moved to New Zealand to continue his post graduate clinical cardiology training. He completed his cardiology training in New Zealand at the Auckland and Middlemore Hospitals and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2011.

Luay moved to Australia to undertake a Fellowship in Cardiac MRI and Cardiac CT Coronary Angiography at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Following his advanced cardiology training, Luay joined GenesisCare (formerly Adelaide Cardiology) in 2013 as a Consultant Cardiologist.

He has a special interest in non-invasive imaging of the heart, primary prevention of heart disease, the management of ischaemic heart disease and the treatment of heart failure. Maria completed her physician training in New South Wales and her advanced cardiology training at the Austin Hospital in Melbourne. She was admitted to the Royal Australian College of Physicians in 2009.

Following her advanced cardiology training, Maria completed Fellowships in Electrophysiology at The Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane (2010) and the University of British Columbia, Vancouver Canada (2011).

Maria has an interest in all aspects of clinical cardiology with a particular interest in implantable electronic devices, heart failure device therapy and syncope.

Srini graduated from the University of Madras, India in 1992 and gained experience in cardiology at the Madras Medical Mission, one of the premier institutes and tertiary referral centres for cardiac disorders in Chennai.

He completed his advanced cardiology training at the Greenlane Cardiovascular Centre and Middlemore Hospital in Auckland. While practising as a Consultant Cardiologist in New Zealand he was invited by the Cook Islands, Ministry of Health to lead a cardiac clinic in Rarotonga Hospital. Srini was awarded his FRACP in 2010.

To further advance his expertise in cardiac imaging Srini completed a Clinical Fellowship in cardiac magnetic resonance imaging at Flinders Medical Centre and is involved in clinical research projects in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.

Srini is a non-interventional Cardiologist with extensive experience in Echocardiography and Cardiac Magnetic Resonance imaging and has an interest in all aspects of clinical cardiology. In 2017 he accepted the central role in managing the inaugural Heart Failure Clinic at GenesisCare (formerly Adelaide Cardiology).

Srini consults at the St Andrew’s Medical Centre, and our Leabrook, Unley Road, Gawler and Kadina clinics.

Peter graduated with honours from Adelaide University in 1976. His internship, general medical and cardiology training were completed at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Peter was awarded FRACP in 1981 and granted a Lions Post Graduate Medical Scholarship to conduct research involving post myocardial infarction patients. In 1982 he was awarded a National Heart Foundation Overseas Clinical Fellowship to travel to the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, where he undertook research in atherogenesis and thrombosis, particularly developing a pig model of acute arterial injury using angioplasty. During his time at the Mayo Clinic he also did fellowships in echocardiography and cardiac catheterization. On returning to Adelaide in 1984 he was appointed staff cardiologist at the RAH and joined Adelaide Cardiology in 1988.

Peter’s interests are all aspects of clinical cardiology, including interventional cardiology and a special interest in pulmonary hypertension. He has a strong commitment to postgraduate teaching and is involved in an international research project in pulmonary arterial hypertension. He has held a number of positions in professional bodies including State Secretary of the Cardiac Society for 10 years and a member of the Cardiac Society Council for 6 years. He is currently Chairman of Specialist Training Committee (cardiology) of the RACP, board member of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand and a Director of the National Heart Foundation (SA).

In 2005 Peter was appointed Director of Cardiology, Royal Adelaide Hospital, and divides his time equally between the RAH and Adelaide Cardiology.

Karen graduated from University of Adelaide in 1995 and completed her internship, general medical and cardiology training at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. She was awarded the FRACP in 2002.

She has completed a PhD in Multimodality Cardiovascular imaging (cardiovascular magnetic resonance and CT) at the University of Adelaide. She also undertook a senior clinical fellowship at the Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) Unit of the Royal Brompton Hospital in London, U.K. and has advanced competency in CMR (level III SCMR).

Karen joined GenesisCare (formerly Adelaide Cardiology) in 2007 and is also staff specialist at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. She has an interest in all aspects of clinical cardiology, with a particular interest in cardiac imaging with CMR and echocardiography.

Charles graduated from University of Otago in 2001. His internship, general medical and cardiology training were completed at the Dunedin Hospital, New Zealand.

He was awarded FRACP (dual training in Cardiology and General Medicine) in 2012 and went on to complete 18 months of Interventional Fellowship at the Christchurch Hospital, where he was involved in multicentre clinical trials (ABSORB Cohort B Trial and Stratifying risk with Metabolomics and platelet Reactivity Testing in Acute Coronary Syndromes (SMART-ACS) study).

He has a special interest in the diagnosis and management of coronary artery disease as well as various aspects of interventional cardiology, including fractional flow reserve, intracoronary Optical Coherence Tomography and Bioresorbable Everolimus Eluting Vascular Scaffold. He is planning to further develop his interest in structural heart intervention.

Apart from English, Charles is also fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese.

He then completed the fellowships in Nuclear Medicine and Cardiology in Royal Hobart Hospital (Tas), Royal Adelaide Hospital (SA), Queen Elizabeth Hospital (SA) and in The Townsville University Hospital (QLD). He became a fellow in Royal Australian College of Physician in 2012.

He is also qualified as a specialist in CTCA where he received his training in St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney and holds CTCA level A accreditation since 2015. In addition, Dr Weerasooriya holds FSCMR following his fellowship in University College London and Barts Heart Centre, UK. He is a multimodal imager in advanced cardiac imaging including complex echocardiography, Stress echocardiography, transoesophageal echocardiography, cardiac CT, coronary CT angiography, cardiac MR, Nuclear cardiology and PET imaging.

Special clinical interest in arrhythmias / electrophysiology and cardiac CT.

Glenn graduated from the University of Adelaide in 1985 and undertook his internship, general medical training and advanced cardiology training at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. At this time invasive treatment of cardiac arrhythmias was in its infancy and Glenn decided to travel overseas to pursue his interest in this area.

Having been awarded the Lions Heart Foundation Travelling Fellowship, Glenn studied at the Royal Brompton National Heart Hospital in London for 12 months and then a further two years at the University Hospital in Vancouver, Canada.

In 1994 Glenn returned to the RAH to establish a comprehensive electrophysiology service. He continues to work predominantly in the field of cardiac arrhythmias performing both catheter ablations and implanting pacemakers and defibrillators.

Glenn has undertaken extensive research in the area of arrhythmias and this is an ongoing commitment. Glenn also involves himself in the teaching of medical students, cardiac trainees and nursing staff and is a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Adelaide.

Glenn has an active role in the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand being past Chairman of the Pacing and EP working group and is on a number of other Cardiac Society and federal government committees.
