Overview
Michael Binner, MD is a urologist who completed his training at the Univeristy of Cincinnati. As a Florida native, he is glad to be back home and serving his community in cutting-edge urologic care. He provides general urology expertise with a special interest in urologic oncology. He offers endoscopic minimally invasive kidney stone treatment as well as PCNL for large stone burdens. He also provides minimally invasive robotic surgery for kidney, ureter, and prostate cancers. He does surgery for erectile dysfunction, male incontinence, vasectomy, and benign prostate surgery for enlarged prostate for men with lower urinary tract symptoms.
A unique aspect of Dr. Binner’s practice focuses on a new and innovative way to treat prostate cancer in the form of focal gland ablation. Focal gland ablation is when the prostate cancer is selectively targeted and destroyed for patients who are eligible. This offers an alternative to performing whole gland treatment such as radiation or prostate removal which can have bothersome effects on quality of life.
“Every prostate cancer diagnosis is unique, and deciding on a treatment path can be a difficult decision. Not all patients are candidates for focal prostate cancer ablation, and determining the right treatment plan in a patient-centered approach is something I value. Some patients will inevitably need whole gland treatment, however, for those eligible, focal gland ablation is a good option.”
Focal gland ablative options include HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) ablation, cryotherapy, and IRE (Irreversible Electroporation). Determining the right ablative modality is personalized with each patient, and prioritizing maintaining quality of life without compromising oncologic control is paramount.
