According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, skin cancer is the most prevalent cancer type in the US. Roughly 20% of Americans will develop skin cancer before the age of 70. Despite these facts:

  • 72% of Americans do not know that non-melanoma skin cancers can metastasize, or spread, and become life-threatening.
  • Over half of those living in the US think melanoma is the most common skin cancer.

  This is part 1 in a series that will help empower you with knowledge about skin cancer.

Speakers

Alexander Ernst, MD

Dr. Ernst is a dermatologist at Michigan Healthcare Professionals. He earned his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, completed an internship at Oakwood-Beaumont Hospital in Taylor, Michigan, followed by a residency in Dermatology at St. Louis University. Dr. Ernst is board certified in dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology.  

Thomas Boike, MD, MMM

Dr. Boike is a GenesisCare affiliated Radiation Oncologist practicing in ClarkstonMacombPontiac and Troy. He earned his medical degree at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, followed by a residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He also earned a Master’s of Medical Management from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Dr. Boike has held academic appointments, including Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Southwestern and Adjunct Assistant Professor at Wayne State University. He has also been an active principal investigator in clinical trials.
