Overview

Dr. Hesselgesser is a graduate of USC and New York Medical College. He completed his residency in radiation oncology at the LA County USC Medical Center. He is a specialist in radioactive implants with high and low dose rate lridium 192, and has lectured internationally on the topic, including their use in lung, brain and nasopharyngeal tumors. Dr. Hesselgesser has a long standing interest in treating skin cancer (i.e. basal and squamous cell carcinoma) using Superficial Radiation Therapy (SRT), a non-invasive treatment using low energy radiation (aka X-ray therapy) to treat only the affected layers of the skin, and eliminating the need for anesthetics or skin grafting. Board-certified in radiation oncology in 1975, Dr. Hesselgesser is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American College of Radiology, the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, the American Endocurietherapy Society and is actively involved in the cancer support community.
