Introducing “positive prescriptions” in regional Queensland

Wednesday June 27th

At GenesisCare the holistic care of every person who visits us is very important. We are focused on more than just the tumour or the condition, but also supporting the person as a whole. We ask: what can we do better to improve an individual’s care or comfort, inside or outside of our centres or clinics?

This week in Wide Bay, Queensland, we announced a partnership with social initiative Live Life Get Active to launch a new series of active camps within this regional community.

For people undergoing treatment, monitoring or procedures to tackle or manage cancer or heart disease, we are encouraging doses of exercise in the great outdoors.

Did you know? Exercise has been proven to improve heart condition and reduce the side effects of cancer treatment.

Suitable GenesisCare patients will be issued “positive prescriptions” to participate in the active camps, which are also available to their families and friends, and any interested members of the community.

Olympian Jane Flemming OAM is a director of Live Life Get Active and says the program has a very positive impact on people’s physical wellbeing and mental health.

“The partnership with Live Life Get Active, GenesisCare and Bundaberg Regional Council will see patients, their families and communities directly linked to an exercise and nutrition program to enhance their health outcome, reduce stress and measure success.”

The exercise camps consist of a variety of physical activities including boxing, cross-training and yoga. These camps are free for the whole community.

Jane says the initiative is all about getting people active in their local community, in a supportive and motivating environment.

GenesisCare opened two new radiation oncology centres in Wide Bay in 2018, and has a long history of delivering high quality cardiology care in the region.
