When is Warfarin used?
There are a number of conditions that can increase your chance of developing blood clots.
They include atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm), heart valve replacement and other surgeries, like a hip or knee replacement.
Warfarin is used to manage any risk associated with these conditions.
There are alternatives to warfarin now available for some conditions so if you would like to know more about whether they are suitable for you ask your doctor.
Are there any side effects?
Warfarin has been used for many years and is considered safe when its use is closely monitored by your doctor. At GenesisCare, our primary focus is your well-being so if you have any concerns about taking Warfarin, we’re here to help.
Just bear in mind that when you take Warfarin your blood won’t clot as easily so you’ll bleed more freely if you cut or injure yourself.
